The Ministry of Electricity holds a workshop to address environmental pollution and enhance human rights in the workplace and the environment

Under the patronage of His Excellency, the Minister of Electricity, Engineer Ziad Ali Fadhil, the Legal Department of the Ministry of Electricity, in collaboration with the National Initiative for Energy Support and Emissions Reduction, organized a workshop on Monday, October 21, 2024, titled "Human Rights Strategy for Addressing Environmental Pollution and Human Rights in the Workplace and Environment." The workshop was attended by the Head of the National Initiative, the Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment, Dr. Jassem Al-Fallahi, the Director-General of the Legal Department at the Ministry of Electricity, Mr. Khaled, as well as the Secretariat of the National Initiative, Ms. Shaimaa Madhhar Al-Tamimi, along with nearly 200 participants from various ministries, government agencies, and institutions.

The seminar began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha in honor of the martyrs, followed by a lecture by Dr. Jassem Al-Fallahi and a speech by the Head of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry. The seminar also featured a lecture by a representative from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and a presentation on the Human Rights Strategy in environmental and occupational aspects, delivered by the Director of Central Quality at the Ministry.

Dr. Jassem Al-Fallahi emphasized during the seminar that environmental pollution poses a significant challenge in light of climate change and the increasing environmental accumulations. He highlighted the importance of the National Initiative, which involves cooperation between the Ministries of Electricity and Environment, with the participation of over 5,000 employees, to improve energy efficiency and reduce waste. He also pointed out that the Prime Minister, Engineer Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, places great emphasis on addressing pollution and climate change through monitoring factories that violate environmental standards, establishing regulated landfills, improving the quality of fuel used in power plants, and planting a green belt around the capital, Baghdad.
