Iraq has gained the membership of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) as a member as of January 2019. The letter of acceptance includes Iraq's invitation to participate in the annual meeting of heads of international securities bodies to be held next May in Australia.
The Commission is keen to implement the highest standards and best practices and local and international laws that would strengthen the supervisory of the Commission on the financial markets and support its effectiveness in detecting violations. This shows the regulatory capacity of the Commission on the financial market, which gives positive impact to the domestic and foreign investors. In addition, it is worth noting that the process of joining the International Organization of Securities Commissions requires many years, but our Commission was able to complete the requirements for membership in a few months.
The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) was established in 1983. It sets international standards for the supervision mechanisms of financial markets and works towards the application of the principles of justice, effectiveness and transparency in the international financial community, which all its member states must be guided by and meet their requirements.
